ReadMe’s Masterplan to Bolster Growth for Sri Lanka’s Tech Startups
Technology plays a key role in the modern society. The breakthroughs made in the world of technology in the past few decades have designed the way the world functions today. Being one of the few English tech news portals in Sri Lanka, ReadMe aims to empower the local IT industry by enriching awareness among the people, by providing unbiased and updated information regularly.
Problems Created by the Lack of Exposure:
sri lankan tech startups are our primary area of focus, since, most of their achievements do not make it to the public eye via conventional media channels. The Sri Lankan IT industry is booming but somehow the ripples created by the young inventors and entrepreneurs do not receive their due share of exposure or appreciation.
This supposed lack of opportunities for our young inventors within the country will inevitably lead to an alarming rate of brain drain within the next couple of years if unchecked.
Problems Plaguing the Local Tech Startup Ecosystem:
Sri Lanka’s tech startup ecosystem continues to grow at an amazing rate. There are more startups, tech hubs, events and support for the young stalwarts than there were a few years back. However, the current level of support from the public and private sector remains insufficient to bolster growth.
Startups need a steady support network with strong financial backup for growth during the initial years. If you look at Sri Lanka’s startup scene, securing a $1 million Dollar investment from the private sector is still a distant dream. When you compare the same scenario to any of the developed nations, the picture is entirely different.
ReadMe’s Plans to Counter the Situation:
The perceived lack of employment opportunities is also a cause for growing concern among a majority of Sri Lanka’s eligible young workforce. ReadMe aims to bridge this gap between the unemployed youth and the tech industry through the weekly newsletter program.
The email newsletter recapitulates the highlights of the week with URLs leading to the original article. It has a rich database comprising university students and unemployed graduates as well as the latest information of emerging employment opportunities. The newsletter also functions as a comprehensive calendar for local events and tech meets happening during the week.
